Voters in Mawokota South have called on their newly-elected Member of Parliament, Suzan Nakawuki, to fulfill her campaign promises and address long-standing challenges affecting the constituency.
The appeal was made during a thanksgiving ceremony held at Kyewanise Playground in Kituntu Sub-county, where voters reminded Ms Nakawuki that the responsibility to deliver tangible development now rests squarely on her shoulders.
Residents highlighted poor education standards, inadequate health services, and dilapidated road infrastructure as pressing issues.
“Our schools are in a sorry state — classrooms lack windows, are dusty, and teachers abandon schools at will. We don’t have a hospital, our roads are poor, and we lack clean water,” they said, noting that these challenges influenced their decision to vote out Yusuf Nsibambi.
During the event, they emphasized the importance of accessibility, recalling how Nakawuki frequently interacted with constituents during the campaign and promised to construct a maternity ward, upgrade roads, and improve schools.
Prayers led by Rev Fr Matia Yawe urged Nakawuki to boldly represent the constituency’s concerns in Parliament.
“We pray that God guides you and gives you courage to present the real issues affecting Mawokota South without fear. Don’t be among MPs who go silent once they reach Parliament,” he said.
In response, Nakawuki expressed gratitude to the electorate and reaffirmed her commitment to deliver on her pledges.
She pledged to prioritize land issues, health services, and infrastructure development, vowing to fight against marginalization and exploitation in the constituency.
“I promised roads, a hospital, and modern schools, and I will work on all of them, starting with land issues and the health facility,” she said.
Nakawuki, a who in 2006-2011 served Busiro East, also criticised her predecessor, accusing Nsibambi of sabotaging services after losing the election, including disconnecting electricity and withdrawing garbage trucks, and promised to provide alternatives for the affected residents.
Nsibambi last week dipped into ignominony by disconnecting an entire community from a utility transformer he claims he personally procured for the village.
The outgoing MP said the voters did not deserve his generosity after they dished him for Nakawuki but utility managers UEDCL reconnected electricity and warned the MP that his action was illegal under the laws that government electricity distribution infrastructure.
Nakawuki, a member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), defeated Nsibambi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in the recent parliamentary elections.
Constituents expressed hope that her tenure will transform Mawokota South into a model constituency.
